Shelter From the Storm

The grape hyacinths are trying to be brave.

The grape hyacinths are trying to be brave.

All this snow and cold weather we’ve been having has been hard on the animals – and the humans as well. Yesterday, it snowed for 24 hours straight. On May 1st.  I’m emotionally exhausted.  I find myself saying stupid things and being contrary for no reason at all.  I want spring.

Brandy the goat has been contrary, too.  Poor Doink has been enduring more than his share of head butts. Then she’ll turn and scatter the chickens for no reason at all. She’s very possessive of my attention in the barnyard.  Why, oh why, Brandy?

I always do one last check of all the animals before I head to bed.   While Brandy usually sleeps on the same side of the shed with Doink, I’ve never found her like this.  She seemed fragile, like she needed a little extra comfort on that cold, snowy night.  Maybe it was a bit of an apology, too.  Sleep well, Brandy.  The sun will be shining tomorrow.  Spring will come.

So sweet I want to cry.

So sweet I want to cry.

    • I put on my flip flops (for inside use only) today just to show Mother Nature I’m impatient! Right now, Doink is laying on the south side of his house sunning himself – he’s happy, too.

  8. Love the picture of Brandy and Doink! We finally got rid of our nasty gusty wind, which has been replaced by rain. It’s like a cool drink for the garden plants after being subjected to the drying north wind. I need to get out and plant another crop of carrots, beets and lettuce today between the rain showers – mud and all. 🙂
