More Fun For Goats!

The classic goat pose.

The classic goat pose.

Oh, lordy what a wild ride it has been this past couple of weeks. A sick chicken.  A dog with a bad cut on her paw. A strangely paranoid pig. Renewed interest in some sewing projects.  Couple of awesome finds at the thrift store.  Egg production WAY up.  Surprise visit from Excellent Son Sawyer.  Fun with friends so often we feel like college kids again.  Never a dull moment and not much sleep, but oh man it feels good to be alive and happy.

There’s been lots of stories to tell, but no decent photos to share.  It’s not the pretty kind of spring here yet.  We’ve had some wonderful days, but they’ve come between snowy, bleak ones.   Everything is still somewhat soggy and not quite warm enough to really celebrate. Bits of green here and there, but no OMG summer is on its way feeling yet.

I’ve had a hard time sitting down to write with all this nuttiness going on.  My brain is in spring transition mode.  I don’t know about you, but my spring brain is not very productive. I spend way too much time dreaming about all the things I want to do, all the new ideas I want to try.  Oh, to be able to accomplish all the wonderful ideas that fly into my head!

Snap out of it, Joan!  Get to work!

Yesterday we moved half of our huge tree trunk pieces into the barnyard to liven up the goat playground.  We would have moved all of them, but alas, we weren’t quite strong enough to move the largest ones.

Brandy managed to haul her big 'ol self onto the tallest one. Good work, lady!

Whoa! Two at the same time!

Jessie immediately tried out two at the same time.  He’s got mad skills!

Poor Doink.  He participated the best he could.

Hmmm, a bit oaky with overtones of blueberries. No, make that huckleberries.

The chickens were loving it!

Lucy and Ethel, adventurers extraordinaire, were the first chickens on board.

Even Sarah, the quiet hen, hopped up to check it out.

So here’s a toast to the first real project of the season.  Even if it isn’t finished, the animals and I think it’s a great start!

  1. What a great kind of busy your days have been… with the exception of a sick chicken that’s not so good. I love that you’re weather is improving enough for you to start busting out moves on your “to do” list. The girls and goats sure love the trunks, great job buddy!

  2. Well, one has to start somewhere – and the yard family certainly appreciated your efforts by the looks of things. Look forward to reading more – once you’ve changed brains, maybe? Nice to meet you, anyway.

  3. Sounds like things are lookin’ up! What a cool way for the critters to amuse themselves! Spring is officially here, Joan! Enjoy!

  4. Now you need a tractor and loader to get the big pieces! The sick chicken is not good.

    • Oh, you have no idea how much I’d love some heavy equipment! And the chick seems to be doing better. Not totally well, but back with the flock 🙂

  5. That is a brilliant idea my friend. We hope to get goats shortly and are excited about it. The stumps are a great idea for a playground.

  6. I love sneaking by and taking peeks at Doink. Makes me smile. Who knew taking down a tree would be an instant playground for all the animals!?!

  7. Our spring sounds similar to yours. Finally, this week seems to be a constant warm with no intermittent snow…wahoo! We are behind on our garden planting because of the wonky weather. I too have not been able to focus enough to get much accomplished it seems. I do love the caption to the pic of Doink. You always have such clever captions. Thanks for sharing with us at The HomeAcre Hop! Your posts make me smile.
