Hermione the Hen’s Little Adventure

After the snow storm last week I spent a lot of time dropping grapes on the track in the barnyard to encourage everyone to get out and run around some.

At some point Hermione the hen got spooked – I think Doink was a being a little piggy with the treats.  She took flight and landed in the snow.  She flailed there  for a second, then took flight again and ended up in the MIDDLE of the snow on Brandy’s plank.  I stood there and watched her try and figure out what to do for at least a full five minutes….

She paced back and forth, back and forth.

How did I get here?

How did I get here?

She looked down.

Snow here...

Snow here…

She looked around.

And snow here...

And snow here…

She was surrounded by snow and couldn’t figure out how to get back to the path.  I swear I could see her little chicken brain trying to solve the problem.  Finally, she gathered up her courage and took charge of the situation.

I think I can, I think I can!

I think I can, I think I can!

Here goes...

Here goes…

Whoo wee!

Whoo wee!

Aarrkkk!

Aarrkkk!

Almost there!

Almost there!

I don't know, but she's channeling either Batman or Dracula

She’s imitating the John Travolta dance scene in Pulp Fiction.

Almost there!

And now, she’s an eagle!

Whew. Solid ground!

Whew. Solid ground!  No cold tootsies for this hen.

And there, my friends, is but one reason I love these animals so much – free daily entertainment!

    • It’s actually the camera on movie setting. Then I had to learn how to crop the individual frames. Can you imagine how long that took? 🙂

  2. Yeah, so glad she figured it out! Gotta love the hours of entertainment our animals offer us. I sure do. 🙂
