No Bail For The Broody

Poor Aretha. She’s been sent to the Henitentiary for her broody ways. She squawks at me. She glares at me. She paces.

She knocks over her water again and again and tries to fly out when I replace it.

None of this fazes me, the warden.

Let me OUT!

Let me OUT!

She had her chance to be a mama two years ago and proved not to be the mothering type. She went broody last year around this time, so she’s familiar with the Henitentiary.

She knows that Jasmine is in the coop, sitting on five eggs.  She sent a motion to the court to get a couple of those eggs for herself.  Motion successfully shut down by me, the district attorney.

She hates me right now. I believe she’s considering taking her case to a higher court.

Here come da judge.

Here comes da judge.

  1. Hilarious post Joan, love it! And I sure love that judge, what a handsome fellow he is. Here’s hoping your girls body temp cools and she breaks out of that broody mood….

    • JEN! Are you away from the fires? I’ve been worried… Be safe, my friend!

Aretha is not easily broken. I gave her some scratch today and I think if she could have spit on me she would’ve!

  3. Oh dear oh dear – she does not look happy! :/

  4. Just curious, will she ever get a second chance?

    • Good question! Maybe next year I’ll give her a chance if she goes broody again. I’ve got my hands full with two sets of baby chicks this year!

  5. OMGosh I love your sense of humor on this! We recently had our own moody-broody to deal with and I’d never dealt with broodies before. (we’re pretty new to chicken raising) Love your spin on the Henitentiary… LOL Thanks for sharing! (visiting from the Simple Saturday hop)

  6. I love this! One of our girls is broody right now… with no rooster! We’ve tried breaking her with cold baths, but she’s stubborn too. We don’t have a Henitentiary, so since there are no babies involved, we’re going to try to let things run their course.
